New Water and Sewer Rates and Rate Structure

Johnstown residents deserve better water service and going into 2021, that is exactly what the Town has planned. This month, January 2021, the Town will begin using a new utility billing rate structure for both water and sewer services which includes new customer classifications as well as new rates. For residential customers, the new water base will be $21.53 and usage rates will apply on a tiered basis with 0 - 5,000 gallons (the first tier) charged at $3.00 per thousand gallons. The residential sewer rate is a flat fee of $31.56.

The decision to increase rates was made carefully and cautiously and the increase provides the water and sewer funds the money that is needed to operate, maintain, and improve the water and wastewater systems for current residents. The Town uses its best efforts in controlling its costs in order to keep rates as low as possible, and ultimately, these rates were approved as part of multi-year plans to upgrade both systems.

Projects resulting from this increase that will provide better water and wastewater services to residents include (but are not limited to): purchasing and installing a granular activated carbon feeder to improve water taste and odor, a new water tower to increase capacity, improve pressure, and distribution, and updates to both sewer treatment plants.
