The Johnstown Community YMCA has been open in a limited capacity since May. Now Johnstown can really celebrate this hub of community and health at the Grand Opening on August 29, 2020
Johnstown, CO – August 5, 2020 – The Town of Johnstown and the YMCA of Northern Colorado is excited to be able to celebrate a long-awaited partnership with the Grand Opening of the Johnstown Community YMCA scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2020 starting at 5:30pm.
“It is so exciting to be able to finally inaugurate our newest community space in true Johnstown fashion: togetherness, family, and fun,” said Johnstown Mayor, Gary Lebsack. “The Johnstown Community YMCA has been 15 years in the making, so being able to honor the investment of this Town, and current and past Town Officials, through a proper Grand Opening is significant. Our partnership with the YMCA of Northern Colorado in this endeavor is to provide an exceptional local space and recreational center that encourages healthy living and exemplifies our community.”
While the Johnstown Community YMCA has been open in some capacity since late May, the Grand Opening had to be rescheduled from its original date, May 16, 2020, on account of COVID-19. Despite the delay, the Town and Y hopes that the event is just as exciting (and safe) as it would have been pre-COVID and will include food trucks (for purchasing food/beverage), outdoor field games, the anticipated ribbon cutting & Mason’s ceremony at the corner stone, and a finale of fireworks.
“This event is a celebration of community. The Town of Johnstown has been an incredible partner, and we have worked together to develop a space that will strengthen this community long into the future for generations to come,” said Keith Williams, Executive Director of the Johnstown Community YMCA. “It is obvious that The Johnstown Community YMCA is a space for health and fitness. However, it’s also a space for families to bond, for children to grow and for neighbors to connect. It’s a space where lives will change. That is made possible because of the long-time leadership and diligence of the Town of Johnstown."
Event attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets to this picnicstyle grand opening and to park at, or around, the YMCA (165 Settler Way, Johnstown, CO). Should the event get rained out, the rain date is scheduled for the next day, August 30, 2020. A more detailed schedule will be available in the weeks to come, so follow @TownofJohnstown or @JohnstownCommunityYMCA on Facebook for the most up to date information.
As a reminder, the Town of Johnstown and the Johnstown Community YMCA encourage the use of masks when in large gatherings outside as well social distancing. Additionally, wearing a mask is mandatory when entering Town facilities and the Johnstown Community YMCA. This event is much anticipated and in these current times, it is important to follow state guidance on the use of masks and social distancing.
**The event and participation specifics are subject to change based on COVID-19 and health department requirements.**
