Johnstown, CO – September 24, 2019 – On Monday, September 16th, a student at Roosevelt High School in Johnstown, CO made a threatening comment to a friend during lunch. The school district involved the Johnstown Police Department immediately and disciplinary action was taken that day with the student being removed from school. Law enforcement continues to investigate and assess the situation, especially since many students took to social media last night sharing information about this situation that was not accurate or truthful.
Recent tragedies around the country and in our own state have heightened everyone’s concern for the safety of students. Please take this opportunity to talk with your child/children and help them understand that it is never acceptable to put forth a threat of any kind against our schools or another person. Students also need to be aware that law enforcement agencies are taking these threats very seriously and are pursuing prosecution even when such incidents are intended as pranks. We also ask that our students report to a teacher or school staff member anything that they feel is inappropriate or potentially dangerous. They can also submit an anonymous tip through Safe2Tell on their website (safe2tell.org) or by calling 1-877-542-7233. Putting false information on social media sites is not appropriate and can cause more anxiety and mistrust throughout the community.
The safety of our students is always top-of-mind. Please be assured that our priority is to keep our students safe and to keep you informed regarding your child’s safety and wellbeing.
