Johnstown, CO – May 3, 2021 – Johnstown Police Department collected enough returned medication to fill 4 large trash bags on this year’s National Drug Take Back Day on April 24. The 4 large bags of unused, unwanted, or expired medications weighed, in total, 93.2 pounds and was brought to the Denver Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for destruction on April 27.
“The Johnstown Police Department is dedicated to keeping this community safe,” Chief Brian Phillips said. “Working with the DEA for Drug Take Back Day to provide this safe disposal opportunity, as departments across the country do, is just one way that we can help protect our community from medication misuse and related crime.”
Drug Take Back Day is a program that the Johnstown Police Department likes to participate in every year because of its impact on the community. According to the DEA website, the previous Drug Take Back Day in 2020 had over 4,000 law enforcement collection sites and over 490 tons of material was collected.
