Johnstown, Colorado – October 3, 2023 – The Town of Johnstown is excited to announce that people in Johnstown and surrounding communities across Northern Colorado will enjoy greater access to grocery delivery services due to the addition of a Kroger fulfillment center in town.

The Kroger Company officially opened the facility, which they call a 'spoke,' on September 21st. The approximately 57,000 square foot facility is located along Highway 34 at Trade@2534, a United Properties Development in Johnstown Plaza and will work in conjunction with the company's fulfillment center in Aurora to expand grocery delivery services in the area.

"We're really excited to have Kroger here," Mayor Troy Mellon said at the spoke's opening ceremony. "The great river of commerce runs through this area, and we're lucky to sit on the banks."

The Johnstown spoke facility will function as a type of delivery hub for customers throughout the region. Grocery delivery orders placed by King Soopers customers (a Kroger brand) are picked and assembled at the company's Aurora facility before being transferred to the Johnstown spoke. From there, orders are loaded into refrigerated trucks that deliver directly to customers' doors. The spoke currently employs about 70 people.

"(This new facility) provides a service that is not only needed in our community, but wanted," Economic Development Manager Sarah Crosthwaite said at the spoke's opening. “Our Town Council values companies that invest in our community with purpose and provide the high-quality jobs and services our residents deserve."

The new grocery delivery facility should boost service and facilitate greater access to groceries for Johnstown and area residents that face transportation challenges. Johnstown's partnership with Kroger, the Larimer County Office of Economic and Workforce Development and other regional partners to bring this fulfillment center to town is one of the Town's most recent accomplishments in its efforts to increase the accessibility of essential services and resources. The Town also signed an agreement with Weld County in August to allow resident access to free paratransit service through Via Mobility.
