Johnstown, [August 22, 2023] — The Town of Johnstown is excited to announce that Town residents (in Larimer and Weld counties) can begin to use the Via Mobility Program. Via Mobility, in partnership with Weld County, has a multitude of benefits for the local community by increasing transportation accessibility.

The new intergovernmental agreement (IGA) signed at the August 21 Town Council Meeting signifies a step forward in the Town's commitment to fostering a more connected and vibrant community. By partnering with Weld County and Via Mobility, this initiative aims to address the transportation challenges faced by residents, including seniors and people with disabilities.

Via Mobility will pick up in Johnstown Monday-Friday from 8am-4:30pm. Individuals who are 60+ or individuals with disabilities within this service area are eligible for free rides to anywhere within the ride drop off of Via Mobility – an impressive amount of space spanning from Cheyenne, WY to north Denver.

This partnership underscores a commitment to inclusivity by providing specialized transportation services for individuals with disabilities and seniors. During the Via Mobility pilot program conducted in 2022, Johnstown had the highest ridership of partnered Towns, proving the service to be of need. This collaboration aligns with the Town's vision of creating a connected community where everyone can enjoy the Town's offerings.

Troy Mellon, Mayor of Johnstown, has a unique connection to the service already, “My wife’s cousin was the first one to use Via Mobility in Johnstown on August 22.” Mayor Mellon continues, “This partnership with Via Mobility and Weld County is really helpful for folks who cannot drive anymore to get around and do the things that they need to do. It is all a part of creating a connected and accessible Town for our residents. To me, this is a huge plus for our community.”

The Town looks forward to the positive changes that fund-matching this program will bring to the community. The Town itself has agreed to match a grant which makes this opportunity possible, by investing $48,473.40. The program budget for two years is a total $457,200.00 with Johnstown’s portion remaining just shy of $50k. By starting on the path to creating accessible and integrated transportation solutions, this opportunity speaks to the work that the Town is doing every day to create a connected community full of opportunity.
